Amputation and Prosthetic Rehabilitation (MSc)

You’ll need a: 

• 2:2 degree
• at least one satisfactory reference (on some occasions a second reference will be required)

Find the equivalent international qualifications for your country.

As well as the academic requirements, we expect you to show a strong understanding of the remit of the programme being in prosthetic rehabilitation (i.e. not general rehabilitation), and a genuine interest in this area.

English language requirements

If English isn't your first language, you'll need to complete an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to demonstrate your competence in English. You'll need all of the following scores as a minimum:

Recognition of professional experience

If you don't have the exact entry requirements, but you have significant work experience in this sector we’ll assess your relevant professional experience, your subject knowledge and your aptitude for learning.

Your application will be considered on individual merit and you may be asked to attend an interview.

The flexible nature of the course means that you can bring credits from other universities. You can also select modules from the Health Sciences portfolio. If you can’t find a module to suit your needs you can choose to study an ‘open’ module. This type of module will involve working with an academic coach and creating your own learning outcomes.

You’ll normally complete the full MSc award in 12 to 18 months of full-time study, or 2 to 5 years of part-time study. BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 modules are developed in partnerships with the British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Amputee Rehabilitation (BACPAR) and bring together experts in clinical practice, research and enterprise.

The course focuses on 3 key areas:

• amputee rehabilitation and prosthetic use
• contemporary issues in limb loss
• research methods

You’ll spend between 250 and 400 hours of study time on each module.

Learning

Teaching and learning methods include:

• lectures
• group seminars
• work-based learning
• supervised and self-directed study

These methods are designed to integrate theory and practice and to encourage a spirit of enquiry.

We’ll encourage you to take part in a wide range of activities that promote meaningful discussion, debate and application to the post-amputation rehabilitation process. The peer directed learning approach works well due to the multidisciplinary nature of the field and the possible mix of UK and international students. It will provide opportunities to learn and connect with different cultures and clinical/professional settings.

Assessment

For the Contemporary Issues in Limb Loss module, you’ll need to write a 3,000-word assignment on a key issue discussed in the module.  

For the Amputee Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Use module, you’ll need to complete a:

• formative assignment
• summative assessment

The summative assessment, made up of 2 components, is marked and contributes to the final module mark. You'll need to achieve a pass of at least 50% in both components.

We will not mark the formative assessment, and it does not contribute to your overall module mark. The goal of the formative assignment is to provide you with feedback and help you identify strengths and weaknesses in your work. The formative assignment has been designed to contain elements that are important for the summative (marked assessment) to help you improve your learning.

Dissertation

You’ll need to write a dissertation around a topic of your choice.

• the changing world of amputation and prosthetic rehabilitation
• global challenges and worldwide issues
• current debates in diabetes management and advances in skin health
• advances in engineering and prosthetic development

Academic Support

We’ll assign you a personal tutor, and you’ll have access to a senior tutor.

Tuition fees

Fees for a year's study:

• UK students pay ?9,250.
• EU and international students pay ?30,300.

If you're an international student on a full-time course, we'll ask you to pay ?2,000 of your tuition fees in advance, as a deposit.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship

These full scholarships are for international applicants applying for the MSc Genomics, MSc Amputation and Prosthetic Rehabilitation, MSc Electrochemistry and Battery Technologies, MSc Global Health and MA Fashion Management in the academic year beginning autumn 2025.

Applicants for this course may be eligible for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, which supports students from developing Commonwealth countries who may not otherwise be able to study in the United Kingdom.

Application assessment fee

We’ll ask you to pay a ?50 application assessment fee if you’re applying for a postgraduate taught course.

This is an extra one-off charge which is separate to your tuition fees and is payable per application. It covers the work and time it takes us to assess your application. You’ll be prompted to pay when you submit your application which won’t progress until you've paid.

Supporting information

When you apply you’ll need to submit a personal statement explaining why you want to take the course. 

You’ll need to include information about: 

• your knowledge of the subject area
• why you want to study a postgraduate qualification in this course
• how you intend to use your qualification

You'll also need to submit two academic references. 

Please include the required paperwork showing your first degree and your IELTS English language test score (if you are a non-native English speaker) with your application. Without these, your application may be delayed.
