About this course
Through this MA Luxury Brand Management course, you’ll get an introduction to the luxury industry and develop specialist skills and expertise.
This course covers key principles and practices within a luxury context, including:
- business strategy
- the consumption of luxury
- marketing principles
- professional and leadership skills
Throughout the academic year, you’ll have the opportunity to visit key luxury brands for private talks. You’ll additionally get to work on a consultancy project with a real luxury brand to gain experience working on live issues and briefs.
You’ll explore the design and creative agendas of luxury brands and critique the meaning behind the signs and symbols of luxury. Studying this degree will also build your knowledge of:
- contemporary issues in the luxury sector
- luxury as an evolving idea
- strategic luxury marketing and management
- the history of luxury
In addition, you’ll learn how to apply a range of research methods to your field and use a variety of digital tools.
A master's in luxury brand management opens a variety of career pathways associated with luxury and marketing. With the practical experience and industry knowledge gained from this course, you’ll be in a strong position to develop your career when you graduate.

Course lead
Dr Debbie Coney Pinder has held senior global marketing positions for international luxury brands, such as De Beers, Jo Malone, Coty, Clarins, L’Oreal. She continues to advise luxury brands on global strategy as a consultant. Her research covers the luxury consumer, luxury in the airport, sustainability and innovation in luxury. Debbie has been awarded the Vice-Chancellors award for outstanding teaching.

Entry requirements
You'll need a 2:1 degree or equivalent international qualification from one of the following areas: art, design, humanities, management, marketing, performing arts, languages, psychology and sociology, statistics, economics, trade, advertising, media and communication, branding.
We do not accept the following subjects: geography, maths, engineering and science, computing science, , education, hospitality, music.
English language requirements
If English isn't your first language, you'll need to complete an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to demonstrate your competence in English. You'll need all of the following scores as a minimum:

Course structure
This luxury brand management master's includes 7 core modules and an optional module in your second semester. Your core modules will provide in-depth knowledge of specialist concepts and methods of luxury brand management. With your optional module of choice you can specialise in a subject that appeals to you.
Throughout the course you’ll develop your academic skills in research, analysing data, and academic writing. Creativity and luxury brands as a theme are included through all modules. Through studying a brand management course, you’ll also investigate strategic management and marketing of luxury.
Semester 1 overview
In your first semester you’ll cover core modules, such as:
- Context of Luxury
- Principles of Luxury
- Professional Luxury Practises
Through these modules, you’ll build a strong understanding of key concepts and environmental factors that influence luxury marketing decisions.
Semester 2 overview
For your second semester you’ll study the core modules Research Methods (Luxury Brand Management) and The Business of Luxury.
You’ll get to choose one of the following optional modules:
- Experimental Publishing
- Exploring the Visual Language of Display
- Visual Culture
Within your second semester you’ll also put your research and analytical skills into practice through your final major project.

Dissertation
You’ll need to complete an independent 10,000-word final project (dissertation).
Focusing on a contemporary luxury brand management issue, you will investigate this issue/area of research to prepare a final project, critically analysing and commenting on the ideas and viewpoints of others, together with those of your own.

We intentionally keep student numbers low on this course, which results in a close-knit group and means you’ll receive plenty of support from your peers and tutors. You’ll have a personal academic tutor, who is the first point of contact for advice about academic or other matters.

Tuition fees
Fees for a year's study:
- UK students pay ?27,800.
- EU and international students pay ?27,800.
Deposit
If you're an international student on a full-time course, we'll ask you to pay ?2,000 of your tuition fees in advance, as a deposit.

Application assessment fee

This is an extra one-off charge which is separate to your tuition fees and is payable per application. It covers the work and time it takes us to assess your application. You’ll be prompted to pay when you submit your application which won’t progress until you've paid.

When you apply you’ll need to submit a personal statement explaining why you want to take the course.

References are not required for this programme.
