PPS Training Session: How to respond to a call for evidence with Fat?ma ?zcan and Emily Cole

Course Overview

This training session will provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of governmental consultations and parliamentary inquiries, as well as the methodologies for effectively responding to them. Participants will gain practical insights into engaging with the UK Parliament, including the steps involved in providing both written and oral evidence.

Additionally, attendees will learn how the Public Policy|BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 team strategically identifies relevant parliamentary inquiries and governmental consultations, aligning them with the expertise of academics from the University of BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载. The team is dedicated to offering ongoing support to experts interested in contributing to these processes.

The session will run for just about an hour and will have a Q&A session.

Speakers Bios

Fat?ma ?zcan

Fatima is a postgraduate researcher and a part-time lecturer at the University of BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载, specialising in maritime law. She recently submitted her PhD thesis on "Cyber Coverage of Autonomous Ships in the Context of Marine Insurance Law" and successfully passed her viva. In addition to her academic pursuits, Fatima is also passionate about policy development and evidence-informed decision-making processes.

She entered the policy world as a Policy Associate in 2021 at Public Policy|BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 with a research project on Solid Bulk Cargo Liquefaction: Strategies for Effective Control. Since joining the team, she has contributed to various projects and initiatives. Currently, Fatima manages consultation activities, providing support to university academics in their responses to calls for evidence from the UK Parliament and Government, as well as leading policy training sessions.

Emily Cole

Emily worked as a Senior Policy Advisor for biodiversity net gain at the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for two years before starting her PhD in 2023 within the School of Geography and Environmental Science. Her research focuses on the implementation of climate change and biodiversity targets within English local governments. She aims to incorporate insights from her time in national government, and more recent policy experience working in local government to inform her research. Emily previously completed an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载, and a BSc in Zoology at the University of Reading.?
