Grace is the Specialist Policy Officer for the Sustainability and Resilience Institute (SRI). In its inaugural year, Grace has been working with SRI to grow awareness amongst policy makers of SRI’s strengths, and shape the Institute’s strategy in alignment with international, national and local policy priorities. Her background is in national policy design and delivery, including the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, and wider industrial decarbonisation.

Evidence Supply Evidence Demand Capacity rising

SRI is funding four secondments in academic year 24/25, to support the translation of evidence and answer specific challenges from policy making organisations. This includes climate change related risk and vulnerability in BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 and Portsmouth, food waste recycling in Winchester and flood risk management at the Environment Agency. Grace is supporting SRI seed-funded projects to plan for and deliver policy relevant outputs Grace is also part of the team delivering the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan for the Solent Industrial Cluster, applying UoS research expertise on participatory decision making, to consider public acceptance and preferences for regional decarbonisation. Outputs have included a policy brief presented at the 2024 labour conference, and a conference on Community Participation in decision making in BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载..?

Alongside supporting SRI members with response to consultations Grace is also supporting the growth of a series of interdisciplinary networks in collaboration with the UoS Civic Directorate which bring together policy makers, the private sector and academics to share research, understand gaps and build partnerships for new research, such as Clean Water South, Clean Air South. Funded by the UoS Civic Impact Fund, Grace is leading on a project to co-produce a Just Transition Plan for Hampshire, and supporting with the delivery of a project to support Test Valley Borough Council in understand the trade-offs of future landuse change on water quality.
Grace delivers an “Introduction to Environmental Policy” training session, as well as supporting delivery of ‘Working with Local Authorities” and “ Working with Civil Servants” training. She also offers ad hoc drop-in sessions for academics working on Policy Briefs and other core knowledge exchange outputs.
