The Broadlands Archives are one of the University Library’s foremost collections of manuscripts. Centred on the Temple (Palmerston)? Ashley? Cassel and Mountbatten families? the archive contains some 4?500 boxes of papers? from the sixteenth century to the present. Major items on show include papers for the foundation of the states of India and Pakistan? Lord Palmerston’s correspondence with Queen Victoria? and material for politics? society and conversation? philanthropy and social reform. A further section looks at the Temple and Ashley estates in Hampshire and Ireland.
