The University has established a new REF Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee to support the development of our REF2029 Code of Practice – a requirement for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission.
Chaired by Professor Miguel Mera (Dean of Arts and Humanities), the Committee brings together representatives from across Faculties and Professional Services, including the Associate Vice-President for EDI and Social Justice, Associate Deans for Research and EDI, Technical and Experimental staff and University and College Union representatives, and staff involved in research systems and strategy.
The Committee will ensure that REF policies and processes are transparent, inclusive, and reflective of the University’s diverse research community and portfolio. Its responsibilities include shaping the Code of Practice, reviewing Equality Impact Assessments, advising on training for decision-makers, and collaborating with existing EDI networks.
The Committee is currently reviewing its initial Equality Impact Assessment and will meet regularly throughout 2025 and beyond.
Applications are now open?for up to four additional members. We welcome academic, technical, and professional services staff with a strong interest in EDI and a good understanding of REF processes. Early-career colleagues and those with lived experience of discrimination or EDI expertise are especially encouraged to apply.
This is a unique opportunity to:
- Influence inclusive approaches to research assessment,
- Gain experience in strategic work and national frameworks,
- Engage with senior leadership and cross-disciplinary EDI initiatives.
