The Research Ethics and Governance Office have recently published a new policy to support staff and students at the University. This new policy will impact all those individuals who undertake research with Human Tissue.
The Use of Human Tissue in Research has been created to inform researchers how to comply with the Human Tissue Act legislation. This new research policy has been created and approved by Senate in June 2025, and sets out how human tissue samples should be collected, stored and used for research at the University. All researchers working with Human Tissue should ensure they read the new policy.
A separate guidance document has been created which provides information on how researchers can apply the policy to their working practices.
For more information regarding this new policy and guidance, please contact the Research Ethics and Governance Office (rgoinfo@soton.ac.uk) or visit the Research Ethics and Governance SharePoint page.
