Professor Michael Butler has been re-appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) for a further three years, with effect from 1 January 2026.
Professor Butler was originally appointed as Dean of FEPS on 1 January 2021. Under his leadership, working with a strong management team from across the faculty, FEPS has increased student numbers, research income and enterprise activity, as well as delivering and progressing several key infrastructure projects.? In addition to his achievements as Dean, Professor Butler is internationally renowned for his impactful research on mathematical methods for the design and verification of safe and secure software-based systems.
Colleagues within the Faculty were invited to share their responses to the proposal to re-appoint Professor Butler as Dean when his current term comes to an end on 31 December 2025, and an overwhelming majority supported an extension of his role. The proposal was then endorsed by Senate in June and approved by University Council at the start of July.
